Teen caught with knife after being seen acting suspiciously at Coatbridge flats

A teenager was caught with a knife while acting suspiciously around a block of Coatbridge flats.

Jordan McNulty, 18, ran after cops spotted him skulking at High Coats.

But they quickly caught the Cumbernauld resident, despite his escape attempt.

The procurator fiscal said: “At around 10.45pm, two officers were on patrol on Jackson Street in Coatbridge when they observed the accused acting suspiciously near High Coats flats. He was continually touching his pockets.

"Upon seeing the officers he ran but they caught up with him, searched him and found a lock-back knife with a knuckle-duster grip.

“He stated ‘that’s not mine, I was just taking it to my pal’.”

Defence solicitor John McGeechan said: “My client advises me he’d met someone older he didn’t know. They took a liking to him and, through friendship, he was given a knife.

“He’s expressed remorse and takes responsibility for it. He doesn’t have a diagnosis for this but his mum believes he suffers with ADHD.

“He’s vulnerable and associates with individuals who are older than him.”

Sheriff Petra Collins said: “This is a very serious offence.

“You’re a first offender and have difficult circumstances so I’ll take that into account.

“I’ll place you on a community order with 12 months of supervision, which is a direct alternative to a fine.”
