Teen catches thug on camera smashing up brother's mobility car

A mum-of-four was distraught after a thug smashed up the mobility car she uses to take her six-year-old son to hospital.

Jenny Darnell was putting her son to bed on Sunday evening when she heard her older son Bobby, 17, shouting for help from his bedroom.

Shocking video footage filmed by the 17-year-old on his mobile phone shows the moment a man began jumping on the bonnet of the Ford Fiesta and smashing the windscreen.

Mum Jenny, 42, said she has only had the car for two weeks, which she uses to take her disabled son Ziggy, six, to school and appointments at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

Jenny has shared the footage of the incident on Edge Lane, Old Swan, in the hope of finding the man responsible and to warn others living in the area.

Jenny, who is a full-time carer for her son, told the ECHO: "Our Bobby looked out his bedroom window, he heard a bang.

"A man was jumping on the bonnet and kicked it in, that's when he started recording.

"I heard [Bobby] shouting. I was putting the baby to bed. He was going 'mum, mum.'

"I flew downstairs but by the time I got down there he had vanished, gone."

Jenny added: "I'm absolutely distraught over it. I can't believe someone could be so cruel.

"Nothing like that has happened to us before."

Merseyside Police said in a statement: "We were contacted at just before 10.50pm last night, Sunday February 27, to reports that an unknown male had caused damage to the windscreen of a Ford Fiesta parked outside a house on Edge Lane in Old Swan.

"The male is believed to have run off in the direction of Elmhouse Road. Enquiries are being carried out."
