Teen cannabis driver banned after having 'couple of puffs' at party

A teenager was caught driving under
the influence of cannabis after having a “couple of puffs” of the drug at
a party.

Jack Dalrymple was stopped by police officers who then smelled cannabis in his vehicle.

Tests discovered the drug in the 19-year-old’s system and he was charged.

Dalrymple had only held his licence since February last year when he was pulled over in Dumbryden Gardens, Edinburgh, on December 12.

He pled guilty to the offence at the city’s sheriff court on Wednesday.

Fiscal depute Mairi Graham said: “Officers had cause to stop the vehicle and spoke to the driver through his open window. They could smell cannabis coming from within.”

Dalrymple gave a
negative breathalyser test for alcohol but tested positive for cannabis.

Defence agent Chris Fehily said Dalrymple had a “couple of puffs of something he shouldn’t”. He added: “It was incredibly stupid.”

Sheriff John Cook banned him from driving for a year and imposed a £400 fine.
