Police have busted a teenage boy after he allegedly tried to enter an AFL match with a “small” knife and a fake gun.
On Saturday, a 15-year-old boy allegedly attempted to enter the Essendon Vs Sydney Match at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium during the game’s first quarter.
Per the Sunday Herald Sun, a police spokesperson reported that the teen didn’t have a ticket, but “enquired about entering the venue” at about 4.30pm.
After he was searched by nearby officers, the teenager was found to be allegedly carrying an “imitation gun” and a “small knife”.
The spokesperson adds that the teenager was issued a caution about the incident.
The security scare comes after two men were allegedly caught with guns at a Carlton vs Collingwood AFL match at Melbourne Cricket Ground last month.
At the time of the first incident, Stuart Fox, MCG Chief Executive, admitted that were was a “breakdown” in security screenings, and announced it would be “increasing the extensiveness” of its process.
“Our security screening units identified items of concern, and further investigation was required, our initial internal investigation identified a breakdown in the thoroughness of the secondary and manual screening process,” Fox said, per 9News.
“As a result, we will be increasing the extensiveness of the secondary manual security process, and patrons may experience slight delays as they attend upcoming events.”
The AFL has yet to release a statement in regards to Sunday’s incident.
