Teen 'burglar' who tried to make clean getaway found cowering under washing maiden

A teenager suspected of teaming up with a schoolboy to burgle a house was found cowering under a washing maiden when he attempted to give police the slip.

Police, with the help of force dog PD Kane, rounded up the two teenagers after they were seen acting suspiciously in Litherland during the early hours of this morning.

The hapless teenagers tried to evade capture but police soon caught up with the suspected burglars who had raised suspicion when they were spotted just before 3am in Ash Road.

A police spokesman said "upon police arrival, they were seen to make off" but a 14 year-old was detained in an alleyway off nearby Beach Road.

And an older teenager was tracked by PD Kane and found hiding under a washing maiden in a garden nearby.

A spokesman added: "A number of items were recovered for forensic enquiries to be carried out, including bolt cutters and gloves."

A 19-year-old man from Everton and a 14-year-old boy from Walton were arrested on suspicion of burglary, police confirmed.

Both were taken to police stations for questioning.
