(Sun-Times file photo)

Two boys, 13 and 16, were wounded by gunfire Sunday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

The teens were walking down the street in the 7700 block of South Essex Avenue when someone opened fire just before 4 p.m., Chicago police said.

The 13-year-old was shot in the body and the 16-year-old was struck in the leg, police said. Both were transported to Comer Children’s Hospital. Their conditions weren’t known.

No one was in custody.
