Teen boy left with broken nose after terrifying attack in Co Cork

A teenage boy was left gushing blood after thugs broke his nose in a terrifying attack in Co Cork.

The 16-year-old was attacked from behind in Mayfield at around 5.45pm on Wednesday.

The boy's mother, who did not want to be named, said her son was set upon by two young lads who left him pumping blood, Cork Beo reports.

His t-shirt was drenched in blood after the attack where the other boys struck him with a rock and a stick in a cowardly assault.

The concerned mother told CorkBeo: "There were two of them but they came up behind him as he had his headphones on and one of them hit him with a rock and stick while the other fella just stood there laughing.

"It's getting a joke now, they fractured his nose and it was cut too, he got a terrible fright.

"I thought my son was after being stabbed when I saw the amount of blood, I've told parents to watch their kids, it's a disgrace."

The incident has been reported to gardai who are now looking into it but no arrests have been made.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating an alleged assault incident that occurred at Boyne Crescent , Mayfield on the 4/9/2019. The parties involved are both male, known to one another and are young persons."

This is one of a number of similar incidents in the area in recent months with residents of Mayfield on high-alert.

Last week Gardai were investigating an alleged mugging in which a young man was targeted in broad daylight by four men who threatened him with a knife.

The terrifying incident happened on Friday afternoon, August 31st, close to the Amber Service station on the Old Youghal Road close by the Mayfield Business Park.

A garda spokesperson told CorkBeo; "Gardaí are investigating a theft that took place on the Old Youghal Road, yesterday 30th August at approximately 5:45pm. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."

The family of the young man - who alleges that four men threatened him with a knife and took some of his possessions - said they want to warn other families in the area to take care of their children.

Local residents have taken to social media to say there have been a string of similar incidents in the Ballyvolane/Mayfield area in recent months. In July, Gardai investigated an incident in which a 14-year-old boy says he was targeted by a youth who took a small amount of money and his phone before getting into a waiting car.
