Teen boy found carrying knife on Coatbridge street given second chance

A 16-year-old boy who carried a knife in Coatbridge is to return to court.

The teen stated the weapon was for “work purposes” when found with it in his possession on Coats Street in February.

As well as owning up to that offence, the Coatbridge youngster also admitted to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and kicking a door in the town’s Clunie Place last November.

His defence solicitor revealed his client was placed on a community order with supervision earlier this year for separate matters.

Sheriff Morag Shankland said: “I’ll defer this for a date in December.

“I want a criminal justice social work report, a community payback order progress report and also a good behaviour report.

“I want to see how you get on with your current order before dealing with this.

“I’ll decide the proper course of action next time you’re here.

“If there’s any re-offending, you’re in trouble.”
