Teen attacked with machete as shocked bus passengers witness brutal street brawl

A machete wielding man was spotted slashing a teenager as passengers of a bus watched on in horror.

The distressing scene unfolded in Leeds in West Yorkshire.

The videos shows the two boys squaring off in broad daylight, one holding a large machete and the other a hefty looking wooden pole.

One of the boy backs off onto a stretch of grass as the other approaches, The Sun reported.

The one moving forward then swings his wooden pole at the other's head, appearing to just miss his face.

The second lad takes the opportunity to attack, felling the blue jean wearing boy.

A second machete strike is attempted, which seems to miss the boy on the floor.

A shocked bus passenger gasps "madness" as the moving vehicle takes the fighting boys out of view.

The scene unfolded in the Belle Isle area of Leeds on Good Friday.

Knife crime has been an issue in West Yorkshire for several years.

People on street where Home Secretary grew up say we've been 'left to rot'

There were 2,717 incidents of knife crime in the area in the year leading up to September 2018, according to data from the Office for National Statistics.

A steady year on year increase that has seen incidents more than double from 2012/13 and 2017/18 followed three years in which reports fell.

While it is not illegal to own a machete in the UK, it is outlawed to carry one in public without a good reason.
