Teen charged over death of woman at Melbourne CBD apartment

A 17-year-old from Sunshine North in Melbourne has been charged by Victoria Police over the death of a woman at a short-stay apartment complex in the CBD early on Saturday morning.

Laa Chol, 19, from Pakenham in Melbourne's outer south-east, died after she received serious injuries at EQ Tower in A'Beckett Street.

Emergency services were called to the tower but Ms Chol died at the scene.

Police said the boy was being interviewed by the homicide squad, and later said he had been charged with one count of murder.

He will appear in court on Tuesday.

No information has been released on how Ms Chol died.

On Saturday investigators said they believed everyone at the apartment was in their late teens or early twenties.

Earlier on Monday police dismissed suggestions Ms Chol's killing was related to "warring factions" within Melbourne's African-Australian community.
