Teen arrested over attack on Pearly the Pony that outraged Darwin

Pearly the Pony had to be euthanased after being shot by the arrows.

A teenage boy has been arrested over an attack on Pearly the Pony, a beloved horse euthanased earlier this week after being found with arrows lodged in its body at a Darwin equestrian club.

The attack on the pony at Fannie Bay Equestrian Club (FBEC) on Wednesday outraged many in Darwin, and may have been linked to another injury found on a different horse at the club.

But today, NT Police said a teenager had been interviewed and was being considered for youth diversion on weapons and animal cruelty charges.

"Yesterday evening, a 17-year-old male handed himself in to the Darwin Police Station," a statement from NT Police said.

"He was arrested and interviewed in relation to the incident involving animal cruelty in Fannie Bay earlier this week."

Police said investigations into possible co-offenders were continuing.

There has been a string of animal attacks at the East Point Reserve where the club is located, and last month several wallabies were mowed down and killed by a car in three separate incidents.
