Teen arrested after West Belfast police chase

An 18-year-old has been arrested following a police chase in West Belfast.

Pursuit of a suspected stolen LandRover ended when it crashed into two parked cars on the Upper Whiterock Road this morning.

Police said it followed reports of a creeper style burglary.

Inspector Andrew McConville  said: "Just before 7am this morning, police received a report that their property had been entered and their LandRover Discovery had been stolen.

"Details of the vehicle were circulated and it was located a short time later by a police patrol on the Springfield Road. Police followed the vehicle as it travelled through the Springmartin and Ballygomartin areas.

"At this point, police signalled for the vehicle to stop, but it made off, travelling in the direction of the Springfield Road. Police pursued the vehicle for a short distance, before it crashed into two parked cars on the Upper Whiterock Road.

"The male driver ran from the vehicle, but was detained by police officers, and he is currently in custody helping with ongoing enquiries."
