Teen arrested after the serious assault of man in one of Dublin's busiest nightspots

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the serious assault of a man in Dublin on Friday.

Gardai and emergency services were called to the scene on Frownes Street Lower in Temple Bar at around 9.50pm after receiving reports that a man had been assaulted by a number of men.

The man, aged in his 40s, was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel before being taken to St James’ Hospital.

His injuries were described as being serious but non-life threatening.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí in Pearse Street investigating the serious assault that occurred in Temple Bar, Dublin on Fownes Street Lower on the evening of Friday 19th August, 2022 arrested a juvenile aged in his teens.

“He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and has since been released pending referral to the Youth Diversion Programme in relation to this incident.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

Gardai have previously appealed to anyone who has information or footage of the attack, which is believed to have begun in a fast food outlet in Temple Bar Square before moving to the Fownes Street areas between 9:30pm and 10:00pm, to contact them.
