Teen arrested after man, 29, stabbed in the leg following 'disagreement' in churchyard

A 19-year-old has been arrested after a man was stabbed in the leg in the grounds of a church following what police called a 'disagreement' with his attacker. The teen was held by police early today - Thursday - close to the scene in Eccles, Salford, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

As reported in the Manchester Evening News , emergency services were called to St Mary's Church in Eccles at around 7.15pm on Tuesday, June 14. Revealing details of the arrest, police confirmed a 29-year-old man was stabbed in the leg 'following a disagreement with the offender'.

He hasn't been named but was taken to hospital for treatment. Police confirmed that thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening. GMP said investigations were continuing and said the full circumstances were as yet 'not clear'.

The teenager, who hasn't been named either, was arrested wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in a public place. It's understood he remained in custody for questioning on Thursday afternoon.

In a Facebook post, Sgt Paul Mottram said police patrols in the area would be stepped up. He said: "On Tuesday, June 14, at 7.15pm, a 29 year-old male was stabbed in the leg following a disagreement with the offender.

"The circumstances are not clear yet as to why this occurred. The victim was taken to hospital where he is recovering from his injuries. Fortunately they were not life-threatening.

"At around 9am this morning a 19 year-old male was arrested, near to the scene, for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in a public place. The investigation is ongoing and I will update you with any developments.

"Myself and my team will be in the town centre over the next few days to reassure the public and answer any concerns you may have." No further details have been revealed.
