Teen granted bail accused of bashing 71yo man in Brisbane unit

An 18-year-old man accused of attacking an older man in Brisbane's north last night has been granted bail.

Police alleged Tyler Jay Austin forced his way inside 71-year-old Richard Bland's Northgate unit at about 7:00pm then assaulted him several times.

Mr Austin was arrested at the scene and charged with grievous bodily harm and entering a dwelling with intent.

Mr Bland suffered what police described as "significant" injuries to his head and body, and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A police prosecutor told the Brisbane Magistrates Court the older man only had a "25 per cent chance of living".

A magistrate granted Mr Austin bail with a number of strict conditions, including that he reported to police three times a week and not contact the victim.
