Teen, 18, beaten by gang of up to 20 armed with poles before being stabbed in horror Artane attack

Up to twenty local teens fled the scene of a brutal attack that has left an 18-year-old with life-changing injuries.

Gardai have made an appeal for witnesses after the horror stabbing in a laneway in Artane, North Dublin last night.

A young man was rushed to hospital with a spokesperson describing his injuries as "life-changing but not life-threatening".

The attack happened in a laneway between Thorndale Estate and St David's Sports Grounds and the scene was cordoned off for forensic examination last night.

A bus stop near the Goblet Pub in Artane was also sealed off after the young man managed to make his way down t raise the alarm.

It's believed up to 20 youths carried out the attack stabbing the young man and beating him with bats between 8pm and 9pm.

They all fled in the direction of Rockfield Park.

Gardai have appealed for potential witnesses as well as any road users in the area who may have caught footage on dashcams.

A spokesperson said: "An Garda Síochána at Clontarf Garda Station are investigating a serious assault on an 18 year old male who received a number of stab injuries.

 "The incident occurred on Thorndale Walk, Artane Dublin 5, on the evening of Thursday the 2nd of January 2020. This young males injuries are serious and life changing but not life threatening.

"This laneway where the altercation occurred runs between Thorndale Estate Artane and St David’s Sports Grounds in the Artane area of Dublin.

"It is believed that up to 20 youths from the local surrounding area carried out this attack, all of whom fled in the direction of the Rockfield Park area between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday evening.

"We appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity with any information about this attack, or persons who may have witnessed or heard any disturbances in this area to contact Gardaí.

"We wish to appeal to road-users with camera footage, or anyone who may have video footage of the incident from social media sources to come forward."
