Teen, 17, killed in horror Antrim crash remembered as 'greatest friend' who was 'constantly joking around'

A local community in Co Antrim have been left devastated after the death of a 17-year-old boy on Friday.

Lewis Mckee sadly passed away following a horror crash near Cullybackey, on the Cardonaghy Road, shortly after 11.40pm.

Police and emergency services rushed to the scene, and Lewis was taken to a nearby hospital.

He was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.

Another teenage boy and girl, who were also in the car, were taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries - which are not believed to be life threatening.

In a statement, Detective Sergeant Harrison commented: "A 17 year old boy was taken to hospital but sadly died from his injuries.

"Two other young people, a teenage boy and girl, who were also in the vehicle at the time, sustained injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this stage.

"A 17 year old boy, arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, has since been released on police bail to allow for further police enquiries."

Tributes to the teen have flooded in as people remembered Lewis as the "greatest friend" who was "constantly joking around".

One person wrote: "A good friend taken well to soon,I can't believe your gone everyone will be missing you forever."

A second said: "Cherishing these memories always. You were always there for me in a heartbreak, constantly joking around with me, I'll miss you forever. Thank you for being the greatest friend a girl could ask for. RIP."

While a third commented: "Fairwell bro. Fly high."

Carniny Amateur and Youth FC also paid tribute to the youngster, saying: "All at Carniny Amateur and Youth FC were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our former players Lewis McKee after a tragic road accident. Lewis was a member of our 2005 squad.

"Thoughts and prayers with all the family circle".

TUV Alderman Stewart McDonald also offered his sympathies to the family, saying: "I was saddened to learn of the death of 17 year old Lewis Mckee who I knew following an accident on Cardonaghy Road on Friday night. My prayers are with his family and indeed the other two teenagers who were injured in the accident and are still being treated in hospital.

"I wish the PSNI well in their investigations into the circumstances of what took place and would urge anyone who can assist the authorities to come forward."
