Teen, 17, among two arrested after gardai seize gun in Tallaght, South Dublin

A 17-year-old was among two people arrested after gardai nabbed a firearm from a house in South Dublin.

The teen was taken in along with a 28-year-old man after the gardai national drugs and organised crime unit searched a premises in Tallaght.

The men are currently being detained with gardai saying they're "determined" to remove guns from the streets.

A spokesperson said: "As part of an intelligence led operation, targeting organised criminality in the South Dublin area, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau carried out an operation in the Tallaght area this afternoon, the 19th of April, 2019.

"During the course of the operation Gardai recovered a firearm and arrested two males aged 28 and 17 years. They are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act 39/98 at Tallaght Garda Station."

Speaking today Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll of Special Crime Operations said: "For the purpose of tackling crime An Garda Siochana is determined to remove firearms, that have the capacity to kill, from our streets and to identify those who we suspect are willing to use them.”
