Teen, 16, dies after being mauled by three pit bulls in Dallas, police say

A teenage boy has died after being mauled by three pit bulls, according to police in Texas.

Irving Police said the 16-year-old was attacked by the dogs inside the fenced backyard of a Dallas-area home where the dogs lived.

His death was announced by police on Sunday and authorities said an officer was also bitten in the incident.

A police statement said officers responded around 5am on Saturday to reports of a dog attack.

They arrived to find the dogs mauling the boy, who did not live at the home, and the teen died Saturday night at Parkland Memorial Hospital.

His name has not been released.

Police shot one of the dogs, who later had to be euthanised and the other two were taken to a shelter.

Irving police are investigating why the teen was at the home.

The owner told investigators that the boy was trespassing.

Additional reporting by agencies.
