Tedesco locks up NRL future with Roosters

James Tedesco has ended months of negotiations with the Sydney Roosters by re-signing with the club until the end of the 2024 NRL season.

The superstar fullback was free to negotiate with rival clubs from November but was never expected to leave.

The three-year contract extension is believed to be worth around $1.1 million per season and will keep Tedesco at the club until he is at least 31.

Widely considered to be the best rugby league player in the world, Tedesco has won two premierships with the Roosters since joining from Wests Tigers in 2018.

Tedesco is currently on a break after leading the NSW Blues for the first time in the State of Origin series last month.

Tedesco took over as Blues captain after Roosters teammate Boyd Cordner was ruled out of the final two games of the series with concussion concerns.

His re-signing comes after the 27-year-old became the first Roosters player to claim the Jack Gibson Medal as club's player of the year for the third season in a row.

Last week the Roosters signed teen sensation Joseph Suaalii, who is expected to be groomed to take over as fullback once Tedesco retires.

"James is an integral member of our team, not just for the important role he plays on the field, but also for the important voice he is off the field as a senior member of our squad," said coach Trent Robinson.

"We all love 'Teddy'.

"He's a good person and it's great news that he will continue to play his role here at the Roosters in the coming years."
