Teden Mengi close to sealing second Manchester United loan exit

Manchester United youngster Teden Mengi is close to re-joining Derby County on a season-long loan deal.

Mengi, 19, is a highly-rated centre back at the club and has captained the academy teams on occasion and trained with the first-team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the manger earmarking him as a future first-team player.

He joined Wayne Rooney 's Derby County last January on a six-month loan deal and impressed the United legend greatly in the nine games he played for the Rams.

With Derby surviving on the final day of the season and avoiding a points deduction post-season, MEN Sport understands Rooney has been keen to bring the defender back to Pride Park.

Do you think a loan move to Derby is a good thing for Teden Mengi? Let us know in the comments below.

And now a deal is close to being completed and it's something United will be keen to see happen. Mengi would greatly benefit from regular first-team football and under Rooney he will be with a manager who knows exactly what the club is all about.

Mengi is currently behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones in the pecking order and with the Reds likely to bring in a new defender this summer too, a loan move makes the most sense for all parties.

The England youth international has made one first-team appearance for United, against LASK Linz in the Europa League during the 2019/20 season and captained the club's Under-18s and Under-23s in recent years.
