Teden Mengi and James Garner training with Manchester United first team

Manchester United youngsters Teden Mengi and James Garner are both training with the first team ahead of a return to Premier League action next week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are set to play their first match in over three months when they travel to face Tottenham a week on Friday.

United are preparing to name a fully fit side for their first match back in action, with previously injured duo Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba now back in full training with the rest of the squad.

Solskjaer is set to have a welcome selection headache on his hands with no fresh injury news ahead of football's resumption next week, and it seems he is prepared to give youth a chance for the remainder of the campaign.

Garner has not made a senior appearance since December but was involved in senior training at Carrington on Monday. Mengi, the 18-year-old academy centre-back who is yet to make his first-team debut, was also involved.

Solskjaer has been keen to include youngsters whenever possible in the first team set-up this season. Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams have emerged as key members of the first-team squad under the Norwegian.

United Under-23s boss Neil Wood confirmed to the MEN last month that Garner is among six young players they are considering loaning out for next season after they rejected moves for him back in the January transfer window.

Mengi is considered one of the club's top prospects and was rewarded with a place on the United bench for the Europa League trip to Astana last year, although he was an unused substitute.

Mengi has made 14 appearances for the Under-23 side this season and also captained the Under-18 team to their first FA Youth Cup semi-final since 2012 before the season was put on hold. It is not yet clear whether that competition will resume.
