Teddy Sheringham warns Tottenham off of Gareth Bale free transfer - ‘I don’t think he would play’

Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham believes the club have moved on from Gareth Bale.

The Real Madrid forward is expected to return to English football this summer upon the expiration of his contract in the Spanish capital, albeit with the caveat that his future is dependant on whether or not Wales qualify for the 2022 World Cup.

Given Bale’s connection to Spurs, a third spell at the club had been mooted as a possibility, having proven he can still convince in the Premier League despite his lack of action in Madrid during a loan stint last season.

Still, Spurs have increased their attacking options since.

Dejan Kulusevksi represents a much younger alternative and has proven a revelation since joining the club from Juventus in January, while Harry Kane and Heung-min Son remain as prolific as ever.

While Bale did score 11 goals in 10 League starts this season, Sheringham believes Tottenham no longer need the four-time Champions League winner.

“I don’t see Bale returning to Tottenham. He’s come back twice, I don’t know where Gareth Bale’s head is at the moment, he obviously likes playing for Wales, there’s problems at Real Madrid. I’d just love to see him playing football again on a regular basis,” he told Genting Casino.

“I don’t think he would play regularly at Spurs. When you look at their forward line and the players that are on the sub bench as well. I think they’ve definitely got two world-class players and then three or four, maybe even five players that could fit into a lot of Premier League teams so I don’t think Gareth, at this stage in his career, would command the regular starting place.”
