Former Spurs striker Teddy Sheringham has predicted Harry Kane will win the Euro 2020 golden boot ahead of England’s quarter-final with Ukraine.
The Spurs forward endured a slow start to the tournament, failing to score in each of the three group stage games before finally getting on the scoresheet in the Three Lions’ 2-0 success against Germany at Wembley Stadium.
Having finally broken his duck at the tournament, Sheringham has backed Kane to commence a challenge for the golden boot - starting Saturday against Ukraine in Rome.
Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes at the launch of their European Championships 5-a-side Bet, he said: “I still think that if we [England] go all the way in this tournament, Harry Kane can still win the Golden Boot, for me.
“If we score early on Saturday, the game opens up and we could go on and score two, three or even four goals. And he might get a couple himself. Then you go into the semi-final, if he gets a goal, all of a sudden he's right up there near the top of the scoring charts.
“The way Harry plays, how dynamic he is, and how focused he is, he's an unbelievable player.
“He's probably the best number nine in the world at the moment, and has been for the last three years. That goal against Germany will have done wonders for him, I promise you.”
Kane still has some way to go if he has genuine aspirations of adding to the Golden Boot from the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
As it stands, Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is leading the way with five goals, whilst Patrick Schick, Karim Benzema and Emil Forsberg all have four each.
