Teddy Sheringham agrees with Roy Keane about Man United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Arsenal

Teddy Sheringham thinks Cristiano Ronaldo should start against Arsenal on Thursday night.

Ronaldo has proved outstanding since his return to United this summer, yet was dropped against Chelsea. Although the forward has scored 10 goals in 16 appearances this term, Bruno Fernandes was asked to play in the false-nine role at Stamford Bridge.

Michael Carrick was responsible for that controversial decision and Ronaldo wasted no time in leaving the pitch after the game.

United play Arsenal at Old Trafford on Thursday and Sheringham has admitted he was bemused at the decision to drop Ronaldo.

"Yeah, I'm kind of with Roy Keane on it," Sheringham told the Manchester Evening News via 978bet.

"You sign top players to play in big games. That's what football is all about. You can rest your players or you can go for a different press game in other games. Michael Carrick has come out and said that he was the one that picked that team [against Chelsea].

"So it's got nothing to do with the new manager coming in. So in my view, you pick these top players, Ronaldo has performed at the top level since he's come to United. He’s scored very, very important goals at important times already.

"It's still early in the season. This season hasn’t even got going for him yet. I think it was a mistake not to play him. I know they got a result but you know, when you're playing these big fixtures, you want your best players playing, that's why they signed him.

"I’d like to think he’s playing against Arsenal."
