Teddy Mezague on trial at Kilmarnock as Angelo Alessio runs the rule over Hapoel Ra'anana defender

Kilmarnock have given Teddy Mezague the chance to win a contract.

The French defender, 29, is currently training at Rugby Park with the Scottish Premiership outfit.

Mezague is with Israeli side Hapoel Ra’anana but is looking for an exit.

And the centre-half has already had experience of the British game after spending a year at Leyton Orient in 2016-17.

Mezague has also had spells with Montpellier in his homeland, Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium and Romanian outfit Dinamo Bucharest last year.

Kilmarnock boss Angelo Alessio is now running the rule over Mezague before he decides whether or not to offer a contract.

Alessio has already re-signed central defender Alex Bruce and is also looking to strengthen other areas of his squad.

The Italian is trying to land winger Thomas Agyepong on loan from Manchester City and he also has the option to sign 19-year-old Liam Millar back from Liverpool.

The young Canadian striker had a similar spell at Rugby Park under Steve Clarke last season.

Meanwhile, Kilmarnock are now set to offer defender Calum Waters a new contract.

The left-back, 23, is out of contract at the end of the season but Alessio has been impressed by Waters and wants to extend his deal. The player will fight it out with Scotland new boy Greg Taylor for the left-back spot.

Kilmarnock have already knocked back an offer for Taylor from German side Nuremberg, although that interest is still alive.
