Teddy Jenks set for Aberdeen transfer as Brighton playmaker to sign on-loan

Aberdeen have won the fight to sign Brighton playmaker Teddy Jenks.

The England youth international will sign on a season-long loan.

There was strong interest from the English Championship and League One but the 19-year-old believes a move to Scotland would be best for his development.

Assistant manager Allan Russell is believed to have helped sway the deal in Aberdeen ’s favour.

The former English striking coach has strong contacts at Brighton and that helped the Dons in their pitch.

Jenks is highly-rated by the Seagulls and that is why there is no clause to buy in the deal.

He has already made his first-team debut and the English Premier League outfit expect a successful loan will push him closer to their first-team.

Jenks was in several of Graham Potter’s squad at the end of the season and his assistant, Billy Reid, knows Scotland well from his time in charge of Hamilton.

Jenks flew up to Scotland at the end of last week to have a look around Cormack Park and Pittodrie and made his decision over the weekend to move north.

The midfielder is expected to join up with Stephen Glass ’s new-look squad when they return for pre-season training and gear up for their Europa League Conference bow.

The Dons will find out who they play in Wednesday’s draw.

Atlanta United defender Jack Gurr is also expected to be in place for their return.

A loan deal has been agreed for the right-back.

Player coach Scott Brown and Jay Emmanuel Thomas will be the other new faces in the Dons squad.

Declan Gallagher has also signed a pre-contract from Motherwell but he won’t be there until after Scotland’s Euro 2020 campaign is over.

Glass is still actively looking to add to his squad.

The Dons have agreed a fee and terms with Houston Dynamo striker Christian Ramirez.

The move is subject to a work permit being issued for the US international.

Aberdeen were also interested in Jamie McGrath but they have been unable to agree a fee with St Mirren for their newly-capped Irish midfielder.

Glass also made an offer to bring Clark Robertson back to the club but he looks more likely to remain in England, where Portsmouth have made an offer.

He also has contract offers from Polish side Slask Wroclaw and Hapoel Jerusalem.

Niall McGinn and Mikey Devlin have already signed extensions for the new season and midfielder Funso Ono will return to the fold after a loan deal at Wigan Athletic.
