For the first time in a very long time, it doesn’t seem like there are a lot of teams needing a quarterback.
For Teddy Bridgewater, that might be bad news.
Bridgewater is still just 26 years old and in the preseason last year with the Jets, he looked fully recovered from a gruesome knee injury he suffered with the Vikings in a 2016 training camp practice.
Bridgewater’s camp will likely want him in a place where he could start.
The options are limited. There’s Miami. But would Bridgewater be an upgrade over Ryan Tannehill? There’s Cincinnati. But would Bridgewater be an upgrade over Andy Dalton?
For me, the answer here seems obvious: the Washington Redskins.
Alex Smith, while we wish him the best, may never return. Bridgewater can be the best of both worlds. He can serve as a stopgap quarterback if Smith can indeed play in 2020. And it can be a one-year audition to see if Bridgewater, a young quarterback with plenty of upside, could be the long-term answer.
Plus, Bridgewater won’t demand starting quarterback money considering he has just 25 pass attempts over the last three seasons.
Other teams to keep an eye on include the Saints (considering they traded for him last season) and Jaguars.
