Ted Lasso star signs professional contract with team

Ted Lasso.

One of the stars of hit TV show Ted Lasso has signed a professional contract with a club in the United States.

The show follows the story of an American football coach hired to manage a fictional English side.

Among its cast are several actors portraying the team's players, however not all of them are having to act as much as their co-stars.

The actor first underwent a two-month trial before signing the full-time deal

Cristo Fernandez, who many will know as Dani Rojas, has now put pen to paper on a professional deal with US side El Paso Locomotive.

Fernandez spent two months on trial with the Texas-based side, who play in the USL Championship, before signing professional terms.

The club's head coach Junior Gonzalez described Hernandez as a "great attacking threat".

He said: “Cristo is a great addition to our roster, adding another attacking threat to our forward line.

“His passion for the game and leadership qualities for our locker room allow us to continue growing the positive culture we strive for as a club.”

After signing the deal, Hernandez said he was a "crazy man with crazy dreams" and said he has always dreamt of playing professionally.

He said: "Football has always been a huge part of my life and identity, and no matter where life has taken me, the dream of competing professionally never truly left my heart.

“I’m incredibly grateful to El Paso Locomotive FC – the club, coaches, staff, and especially my teammates – for opening the doors and giving me the opportunity to compete from day one.

"This journey back to professional football is about believing in yourself, taking risks, and continuing to chase your dreams no matter how unexpected the path may be.

"Maybe I’m just a crazy man with crazy dreams… so being here with the 'Locos' actually makes perfect sense."
