“What you’re seeing the Democrats do here — it is a political stunt.”
(Picture: Photo Credit: TedCruz/Twitter.)Texas Democrats are leaving the state in an effort to prevent the Texas House from passing a restrictive voting bill. The measure includes restrictions on absentee voting and bans on 24-hour and drive through voting, and Democrats are refusing to return to Texas until August 6, when the special legislative session ends. It’s a bold move — and Texas Senator Ted Cruz is having none of it.
Yesterday, Cruz appeared on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” to express his disappointment with the opposing political party for their departures. “What you’re seeing the Democrats do here — it is a political stunt. And you know, I will say it’s ironic,” he told hosts Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino. “As they’re getting on their private jet to fly to Washington D.C., they almost surely had to show identification to get on that jet,” he said.
The Texas Democrats who have pulled this political stunt by flying to Washington, D.C. almost surely had to show ID to get on their jet, yet they’re throwing a fit because they don’t want basic election integrity steps strengthened in Texas.

“They’re doing this in a fit because they don’t want mailed in ballots to be verified, they don’t want the signatures to be verified. They don’t want basic integrity steps to be strengthened in Texas,” he continued. “This is at the end of the day, politics, and they need to get back to doing their jobs.”
Sen. Ted Cruz at the Cancún airport:

"Yesterday my daughters asked if they could take a trip with some friends, and Heidi and I agreed, so I flew down with them last night, dropped them off here and now I'm headed back to Texas." pic.twitter.com/5d8UwlmZWv
But viewers were quick to point out the Senator’s hypocrisy: Cruz himself had fled in the midst like of a state-wide power crisis that left millions of Texans without food, water or heat. Hundreds of Cruz’s constituents literally froze to death in darkness while Cruz and his family took a vacation to Cancun.
And Twitter let him have it.
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz — who took a vacation to Cancun during a state of emergency in Texas — says of Texas Dems who fled to block GOP voter restrictions: “They should be back in Texas doing their job.”

Since Ted Cruz is criticizing democrats for leaving the state here are the missing signs we put up when he fled to Cancun. pic.twitter.com/OXcGvpe6n2

Finally, Former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Julián Castro, provided Cruz with a suggestion.
“Texas Democrats left the state to fight for voting rights. Ted Cruz left the state to sip drinks on a Cancun beach,” he wrote.
