Ted Bundy's unexpected last words as America's worst serial killer was put to death

Ted Bundy appeared to have it all - he was attractive, intelligent, and even volunteered for a charity that promoted suicide prevention. However, the handsome law student was concealing a horrifying secret: he was one of the deadliest serial killers America had ever seen.

Bundy confessed to the murder of 30 women and was put to death at the Florida State Prison aged 42. But experts and police believe the actual death toll is much higher with the predator carrying out attacks throughout the 1970s until his arrest in 1978.

According to the Mirror, the killer would bludgeon his victims to death before having sex with the corpses. He would only stop when the body became too decomposed or had been eaten by animals.

Some of his victims were beheaded, and their heads were taken back to his flat where he would commit further heinous deeds. Before engaging in sex acts, Bundy would arrange their hair, apply makeup, and even brush it.

In a final, gruesome, confession Bundy even admitted to eating parts of his victims. He said it was so he could “possess them” and so they would become part of him.

Bundy said that he was addicted to murder and that the act of killing made him “God”. In one of his most chilling claims about his crimes, Bundy said: “You feel their last bit of breath leaving their body. You’re looking into their eyes. A person in that situation is God.”

Shockingly, the killer could have been stopped before his final few kills. Several women had reported being approached by someone called ‘Ted’. His ex-girlfriend had even told cops that she believed he was behind the killings.

In 1975, Bundy was finally jailed for 15 years for the kindap of Carol DeRanch, one of the very few women who managed to survive his attacks. However, he managed to flee through a window of the jailhouse he had been locked up in for two years.

But, just eight days later he was back behind bars. Bundy managed to climb out of a hole in the ceiling of his cell just a few months later and was once again a free man.

Finally, in 1978, Bundy was once again captured and at last confessed to the murders of 30 people. He was handed three death sentences and spent the rest of his time in prison on death row, where he has been reported he was regularly raped by the other inmates.

On 24 January, 1989, Ted Bundy’s day of execution had come. When asked if he had any final words, Bundy replied: “I’d like you to give my love to my family and friends”.

Bundy was executed in the electric chair. He was 42-years-old.
