Technology live for Monklands residents to have virtual consultations with GP

Innovative technology that will allow some patients in Monklands to have virtual consultations with their general practice has gone live.

Several Lanarkshire practices are among the first in Scotland to use Attend Anywhere as part of an improvement study.

It works on a similar basis to Facetime and helps health and care providers offer secure video call access to their services as part of their day-to-day work.

Instead of travelling to their appointment, patients or service users enter an online waiting area from their computer, smartphone or tablet; the service is notified when they arrive and a health or care provider joins the virtual consultation.

Morag Hearty, NHS Lanarkshire TEC programme manager, said: “This technology has the real potential to reduce the need for physical GP appointments and saving time so GPs, nurses and other general practice staff can spend more time with those living with the most complex needs.”
