Technical glitch delays Mumbai-Kolkata Jet flight, passenger walks out

A Jet Airways flight to Kolkata was held up at the Mumbai airport on Wednesday morning, first owing to an engineering snag and then courtesy a passenger who decided to call off the trip annoyed by the wait.

A Jet Airways spokesperson confirmed the delay.

“Jet Airways flight 9W 615 from Mumbai to Kolkata did a ground return at Mumbai due to a slight technical problem and was cleared shortly post inspection. However, a guest requested to be offloaded, which led to further delay. Jet Airways regrets the inconvenience caused to its guests,” said the airline spokesperson.

This was the second Jet flight on which passengers were held up owing to an engineering glitch. On Tuesday, passengers on 9W 416 flight to Jaipur were stuck in the plane for more than four hours.

According to passengers, the aircraft cabin had turned into a furnace as the auxillary power unit that provides energy to a plane on ground were inefficient. By the time the aircraft become flying fit, the cabin crew’s permitted flight duty time expired. The shifts are strictly supervised as fatigued crew are a risk to fliers’ safety.

The airline Jet Airways spokesperson confirmed the delay. “Jet Airways flight 9W 416 was delayed initially due to a technical issue. Since the crew had extended their FDTL limits new set of crew was arranged,” said the spokesperson.
