Tech & Science Daily: Pandemic ‘has long way to run’, warns Professor Chris Whitty amid new lockdown fear

As the UK prepares to unlock on the 19th July and record numbers of Britons get their jabs, Professor Chris Whitty is urging caution amid concerns about a “vaccine escape variant”.

Speaking at an event run by the Science Museum on Thursday, England’s chief medical officer warns that “further restrictions” could be on the cards amid the raging Delta variant.

Research has found that half of coronavirus patients admitted to hospital during the first wave developed at least one complication.

The study included more than 70,000 British adults admitted to hospital with severe Covid-19 disease.

Of these, half developed one or more health complications during their stay, with kidney injury the most common complication, followed by lung and heart complications.
