Kickass Torrents CEO arrested, site shuts down
Illegal file sharing site Kickass Torrents, also known as KAT is no longer available as its alleged founder Artem Vaulin was arrested in Poland. US authorities are trying for his extradition on charges of illegally distributing pirated films, music, games and other content worth over $1 billion. Kickass Torrents had become the number one torrent site after the fall of PirateBay and was visited by 50 million unique users every month.
WhatsApp adds voice mail feature for beta users
WhatsApp has added two new features Call back and Voice mail on its Android app. These features can be accessed in the call log section of the WhatsApp. Call back allows users to redial after a call goes unanswered by the other person, while the voice mail feature allows users to send a voice message from the same window by pressing and holding the microphone icon. These features are part of WhatsApp’s beta programme and users can access them by signing for the beta testing program of Google on the Play Store.
Pokémon Go is now available in Japan
Ninatic Labs has finally released the Pokémon Go mobile game in the country where Pokémon was originally born. Japan has become the fourth country after the US, Australia and New Zealand where the augmented reality (AR) game has been officially released. The launch was accompanied by a tie-up between Niantic Labs and popular burger chain McDonald’s, under which 400 McDonald’s’ joints will serve as gyms where users can come and practice their Pokémon catching skills.
Apple can open branded stores in India
The Indian government has given Apple a three-year exemption from the 30% local sourcing norm over which the Cupertino-based company was denied the right to open Apple-branded, single-retail stores in the country. After the completion of three years, Apple can source 30% local products on average over the five years, which means they don’t have to stick to the 30% mandate every year for the first five years after the exemption period. But after those five years, Apple will have to abide by the 30% norm every year.
Tinder adds new feature
Popular dating app Tinder has come up with a new feature called Tinder Social. It allows users to create groups and plan activities such as going to a movie, a concert or a pub with friends on Tinder and Facebook. Each group can have up to four people, but the group expires after 24 hours automatically. All the chats and activity on the group will be deleted along with the group. Tinder Social also allows one group to connect with another group and plan their activities together.
