Teary-eyed Ruth Langsford opens up about sister's suicide in wake of Caroline Flack death on This Morning

Ruth Langsford struggled to hold back tears during her time on This Morning as she opened up about her sister's suicide in the wake of Caroline Flack's tragic death.

The 40-year-old former Love Island presenter was found dead by her father after taking her own life in her London flat on Saturday (February 15).

While speaking to psychologist Emma Kenny, Ruth opened up about her own heartbreak when her older sister Julia Johnson, 62, ended her life last year at her home in Surrey.

Following her sister's devastating passing, Ruth admitted on-air how she was left asking herself many questions and a lot of "what ifs".

"This happened in my family," she said. "I just remember the shock at that. It’s the questions it leaves the families."

The emotional presenter then spoke of questions family members may be left asking themselves.

"I should have gone round, should have phoned," she reeled off. "I was going to go round, I was going to phone, maybe I should have stayed longer?

"You're left with a lot of 'what ifs'."

Sitting next to her partner Eamonn Holmes, the 59-year-old added how important it now is that Caroline's family get the support they need to cope with such loss.

She added: "It's her family now that I think will need so much help."

Later on in the show, Ruth and Eamonn were joined by Coronation Street actress Nicola Thorp, who argues that suicide is not a choice.

She said: "Suicide is something that happens when you don’t have a choice."

Ruth and Nicola both began to break down as Ruth stepped in.

She said: "When you believe you don’t have a choice. And that's the sad thing for people left behind. They say so many people loved you.

"You did have a choice. You could have called me, you could have called mum."

"Awwww Eamonn give Ruth a hug #ThisMorning," a third put.
