Tearful Ranvir Singh says young son faces racism as Susannah Reid chokes up reading letter

Marcus Rashford's heartfelt response to the racist abuse he received moved Good Morning Britain presenters to tears, with Ranvir Singh sharing her own son's experiences of racism amid hopes attitudes can be changed.

The Manchester United striker was one of the three England players to receive racist abuse after missing a penalty in Sunday night's Euro 2020 final between England.

The FA spoke out to condemn the "disgusting" comments - and Marcus Rashford released a statement on his own Twitter account in which he apologised for the miss but he would always be proud of his identity as a "black man from Withington and Wythenshawe, South Manchester."

Marcus Rashford also shared a touching message he received from 9-year-old Dexter.

The letter read: "I hope you won't be sad for so long because you are such a good person.

"Last year you inspired me to help people less fortunate. Then last night you inspired me again to always be brave.

"I'm proud of you, you will always be a hero."

Susanna Reid choked up while reading the moving letter - and this prompted a tearful Ranvir Singh to declare how "That's England."

Ranvir drew on her own personal experiences to says how she hopes the response to this can inspire attitudes to change.

She said: "The thing is, it goes to the heart of what we want for our children.

"My son, going to school, he has talked about racism that he's faced. He's going to be nine.

"But you think about it all the time and you are privileged if you don't have to think about it and the only time you have to think about it is when one of your heroes is suffering."

Susanna responded to say that she hopes the team "realise how many people love them, are proud of them and how many people they have inspired."
