BENGALURU: The 'Impact Player' rule is in its nascent stage. Hits and misses have been plenty in the trial-and error phase of this strategic dimension to the game. Over the past two weeks, teams are primarily using it to bring a batter or a bowler, lessening the chance of an allrounder making it as an 'Impact Player'.
In the long run, with the rule in place, teams might even look at the auctions differently, going largely for more onedimensional specialist players rather than utility cricketers.
Asked about the rule, Delhi Capitals pacer Anrich Nortje said, "It is an interesting concept. It does take away, like what many have said, the role of the allrounder. It can be used for various situations, like when someone is injured. There are plenty of ways for teams to use it. We have to see how it goes. It is still new to me, just trying to wrap my head around it," he added.
