Body found in bushland after Bruce Highway crash

Police, Polair, and the SES join the search for Jayden Alexander, missing since last week.

Police and State Emergency Service volunteers have found a body in bushland alongside the Bruce Highway near Gympie, near where a man was involved in a serious crash last week.

Gympie man Jayden Alexander was involved in a serious accident near Traveston last Thursday night around 10:00pm, but fled the scene.

Inspector Pat Swindells said police had contacted friends, family and associates in their search for the 28-year-old since the crash.

"It would appear that it was a very heavy impact," he said.

"Part of the investigation that'll be launched as a part of this will be if speed was involved, driver condition, car condition, road conditions.

"Family raised concerns with police over the weekend.

"We ramped up those investigations as of the weekend because he couldn't be located through conventional means.

"We came back down here to the initial crash site to try and work out his movements from there."

SES and police teams, supported by Polair, searched Cobbs Gully near the Bruce Highway at Kybong this morning, finding a body before midday.

Acting Sergeant Bill Greer said the man is yet to be formally identified.

"It's never the result that anybody wants. It's going to be some sort of a closure to the family to have an answer to what has happened," he said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
