Teams invited to take part in women's charity football tournament

A women's football team based in West Belfast has organised a tournament to raise money and awareness for the Suicide Awareness and Support Group.

Colin Glen Ladies are running the 5-a-side event on Sunday, March 1.

The cost is £40 per team (maximum eight players per team) and is open to people of all abilities.

"Colin Glen Ladies Football Team are from Belfast, and we were established at the beginning of 2019," explained team member Fionnuala Moorhead.

"We are made up of women who wanted to get into football and fitness. Some are past players and others completely new to the sport.

"Our founders' main aim was to create a local club for women of all abilities, a place to come together, make friends and have fun.

"All the while helping with our members' mental health and wellbeing."

There will be three trophies on offer at the tournament on March 1, which will take place at Colin Glen Leisure Park.

"We will be working alongside Suicide Awareness and Support Group with all proceeds going to them," Fionnuala added.

"It has been a difficult start to 2020 and we would like to play our part, no matter how small, in raising awareness for this fantastic charity.

"We are still looking sponsors and there are still a few spots available for teams to enter. So if anyone could help out with sponsorship, or if there are any teams out there would like to take part, please get in touch with us.

"They can find us on our Facebook page or call us at 07935 367500."

The registration deadline for teams is February 26.
