The U.S., which suffered a scare in a victory over Australia on Wednesday, raced out to a 23-5 lead in the first quarter.
Serbia, however, refuse to play the patsy _ it cut the deficit to 50-41 at halftime and 77-73 in the fourth quarter, but could not quite complete the comeback.
Kyrie Irving finished with 15 points while DeAndre Jordan had 13.
The U.S. plays France on Sunday in its final game of preliminary play.
