"Team India know how to....": Shahid Afridi after India's sixth win in a row

NEW DELHI: Mohammed Shami claimed 4 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah bagged three as India hammered England by 100 runs on Sunday in a low-scoring affair to stay unbeaten in the World Cup and all but push the defending champions out of the semi-final race. With this win, Rohit Sharma and Co have jumped to the top of the points table. They have an NRR of +1.405.

Chasing a tricky 230 for victory at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, England collapsed to 129 all out in 34.5 overs to suffer their fifth defeat in six matches.

India have six wins in as many games and are virtually assured of a semi-final place.

After India pummelled defending champions England, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi lauded Team India's dominating show in Lucknow.

"Indian team looks solid and even when things crumble they know how to focus on their strengths. Winning 6/6 at the biggest stage is above and beyond home conditions. It’s a testimony of focused physical work and mental strength, favourites for that reason," Afridi posted on X (formerly Twitter) after India's win over England.

India will now take on Sri Lanka on Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

England, who are languishing at the bottom of the table, will face Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
