Team in Tripura to find reason for steady rate of Covid infection

AGARTALA: A two-member expert team, led by Prof R N Sinha of All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health (AIIH&PH), arrived here on Monday on a three-day visit to review the steady rate of Covid-19 infection over the last two months.

They held a meeting with the health secretary in the civil secretariat after preliminary discussion with the Covid surveillance team. The experts will meet the Covid treatment team at Agartala Govt Medical College on Tuesday and before leaving the state, they will visit some areas where Covid infections are high.

A senior health official said that ministry of health and family welfare has sent the experts to Tripura, along with five other states where infection rates are steady for a few weeks. In the case of Tripura, Covid infection rate has been steady at around 5% for two months.

"Despite compliance to the Covid protocol and mass vaccination, the rate of infection remains same for two months which indicates the maximum possibility of mutation of the virus. Unless the reason of the steady rate of infection is confirmed, the formulation of strategies to fight against Covid will be difficult. We have sent some samples to Kolkata two weeks ago but are yet to receive the reports," he stated
