Team Hollywood capture insurmountable lead

PATTAYA: Fickle winds, rain and a storm challenged sailors yesterday at the Top of the Gulf Regatta, delivering a mixed bag of results in many classes.

In IRC Racing One, Team Hollywood won two races ahead of Thailand's THA72 to build an unsurmountable lead with one day to go.

In IRC Racing Two, two first places by Fujin gave them a three-point lead over Tenacious, while just one point separated Lawana and Ink Zone in the battle for third place.

Yesterday's light winds favoured Japan's Team Spray in IRC Racing Three whose first- and second-place finishes helped them top the overall standings.

Moon Shadow 2 struggled with a third and a second but were still second overall.

Wiwat Poonpat skippered the Royal Thai Navy to a win in the only race in the Platu class yesterday but Easy Tiger V remained the overall leaders.

Defending Optimist champion Panwa Boonak had a tough day but still retained his overall lead while ML Weka Bhanubandh slipped down to third.

In Multihulls, a single long distance race saw Blade Runner IX add another first place to their scoreline and enjoy a five-point lead over Sonic.

The event at off Ocean Marina Yacht Club ends today.
