Team GB stage stunning comeback to keep rugby sevens hopes alive

Britain’s men’s rugby sevens team produced a remarkable comeback to beat the USA and keep alive their hopes of going one better than their silver medal from Rio.

Team GB got off to a disastrous start in their quarter-final clash, losing captain Tom Mitchell to injury as the Americans scored three first-half tries to race into a 21-0 lead.

However, Ollie Lindsay-Hague went over on the stroke of half-time to provide a lifeline and a sin-bin for the US moments after the break swung the momentum further. Ben Harris and Alex Davis added tries to level the scores before Dan Norton danced up the wing to put the Brits ahead for the first time.

Britain reached the final when the sport made its Olympic bow five years ago but were hammered by Fiji and got a reminder of that defeat when they were thumped 33-7 by the same side in their final pool match earlier on Tuesday.

GB face New Zealand in the semi-final on Wednesday (3am BST).
