Team GB set cycling team pursuit world record - then crash into each other celebrating

Team GB’s track cycling team got a little carried away after breaking a world record in the team pursuit.

After finishing their race, two team members Neah Evans and Katie Archibald took their eyes off the road in excitement, which saw them hit each other and end up in a heap on the ground.

The pair were okay and dusted themselves down before going on to win the silver medal later on.

GB took on the US in a bid to make the final and fell behind after the Americans got off to a flying start.

However, four-time Olympic champion Laura Kenny, 29, showed her class and used all her experience to help draw her team back into contention in the last phase.

After a brilliant final 750m, the British team crossed the line in a superb time of 4:06.748.

However, it was short lived as the Germans, who had been in scintillating form, broke Team GB’s record just 10 minutes later.

They shaved 0.6seconds off the new record to set a time of 4:06.188.

The German foursome produced a dominant display against Britain in the final, almost overlapping them as they took the gold medal.

The men’s team, featuring Jason Kenny who is married to Laura, also had to settle for silver as the US team prevailed in the team sprint, ending Team GB’s cycling dominance at the Olympics.

Laura currently has four Olympic gold medals, making her Team GB’s most successful female athlete of all time.

If she bags gold in any of her events in Tokyo she will become the first woman to win gold at three separate Olympics.

When asked what it’s like to be married to a fellow competitive athlete, Laura said: “He goes through everything I go through. There’s not a single feeling or emotion I’ve had that he hasn’t had.

“When I go home and I’m experiencing these emotions I can tell him and he knows how I feel.”
