Team GB's twin gymnasts Jennifer and Jessica share joy over GCSE results on GMB

Good Morning Britain filmed live at a school in Buckinghamshire on Thursday, as nervous teenagers awaited their GCSE results at The Aylesbury Vale Academy.

After a challenging year of schooling and huge changes due to the coronavirus pandemic, the students faced an anxious wait to see how well they had done.

GCSEs were graded by teachers this year, as confirmed in January, after exams were cancelled due to the impact the pandemic had on learning in schools.

Among the group waiting to open up their results at the school were Team GB twins Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova, fresh from their return from the Tokyo Olympics.

Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova had opened their GCSE results moments before appearing live on Good Morning Britain (ITV)

The sisters secured bronze medals in the games just weeks ago, and were hoping to succeed with their GCSEs too after having to balance their studies with training for the big event.

But the pair confessed that if things didn't go their way, they hopefully had a career carved out with more games and Olympics in the future anyway.

When it came to the big reveal, the twins opened their results off camera while some of their schoolmates waited to open their envelopes live on TV.

But when the news reporter returned to the twins later on, they could not wipe the smiles of their faces over their own results.

Jessica said of them: "We're very happy with our results," before Jennifer confirmed they both achieved a Level 2 Distinction * in their respective studies.

Jessica added: "We just wanted to pass and that is what we got, so we're happy just to move on and be happy."

They weren't alone with their joy, as cheers and celebrations were heard across the school gym in the back of shot.

Four students opened their results live on air, and luckily none of them had any "bad news".

One student shared her relief at securing all 7s and 8s in her results, while another student secured the results she had hoped for too with 7s and 6s.

A third student named William managed to get 9s, as well as an 8 and a 7 in his results, followed by Henry. who secured 5s, 7s and 8s.

The reporter noted that no one was crying or seemed sad or annoyed with their own results, so it was happiness all around at The Aylesbury Vale Academy.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
