Team GB rugby star Jasmine Joyce stuns American defenders with incredible skills

Sevens supporters may be deprived of their usual helping in the smaller-sided code this year, but Jasmine Joyce is doing her utmost to ensure fans enjoy what rugby is left on offer.

The 2021 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was cancelled as a result of complications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, with two invitational tournaments taking its place in Canada this month.

Only four teams will participate across back-to-back weekends, and Team GB demolished the United States 34-12 in Vancouver on Sunday to take the first of two trophies up for grabs.

Joyce, 25, was named Player of the Final at BC Place after running in a hat-trick of tries to help seal that victory, the highlight among which featured a remarkable show of skill en route to the line:

Finding space is the key to success in sevens, and there are few in the sport better than Joyce when it comes to opening gaps the rest of us would fail to fathom.

And it took her less than three minutes to put two tries on the board in Sunday's decider, with the second in particular getting supporters on their feet.

The Bristol Bears talisman was staring down two U.S. defenders with seemingly nowhere to go, but Joyce uses her footwork to send one of those markers barrelling into the other.

Taking a page out of the 'Jedi mind trick' handbook, a simple shimmy is all it takes to manipulate her opponent, though a remarkable turn of pace was still required for her to cross the line.

That move sent the commentator into delirium, hailing Joyce as having "the cheat codes," while one fan praised: "The laws of physics do not apply to this woman, her ability to change direction is unreal."

Another Twitter user wrote: "A Welsh Wizard. Now you see her, now you don't."

Team GB's sevens team is routinely filled with a majority of English players, but Joyce is one of the few Welsh stars who's consistently in contention.

Hosts Canada swatted Mexico aside 48-0 to win the third-place play-off in Vancouver, having lost out to both Great Britain and the United States during the round-robin stage.

The four teams will be back in action at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium for the second Fast Four Invitational tournament next weekend, where Great Britain will hope to complete an audacious double.
