JHANSI: As a part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the government of Israel and the UP government, a team of experts from Israel arrived here and visited several villages on Tuesday.
The team will share its expertise and technology in recharging groundwater in the Bundelkhand region.
Sharing details of their visit, chief development officer (CDO) Jhansi, Shailesh Kumar told TOI that the Israeli team visited the region under the Indo-Israel Bundelkhand Water Project Agreement signed in 2019 to explore better avenues for enriching water sources as both Israel and Bundelkhand have similar geographical conditions.
Under the agreement, Israel would also help in tapping new water resources and water harvesting through latest technologies, creating water efficiency in irrigation by motivating villagers to use sprinklers and drip irrigation while discouraging flood irrigation, the CDO said.
The team, consisting of Dan Aloof and Dr Liyo, visited Aari village in Baragaon block and interacted with the locals to understand their requirements. The team also visited the farm of Gurleen Chawla who shot to national fame for growing strawberries.
Later it went to the farm where peanuts are being grown with the help of drip irrigation.
“initially, a mini pilot project will be started in one of the villages which will be further taken to the entire region”, the CDO said.
Besides CDO, senior officials of the departments concerned accompanied the team members.
Later, the team discussed a detailed plan with DM Jhansi Andra Vamsi for further course of action.
