Team co-owner Wyc Grousbeck describes Boston Celtics as ‘a strongly contending team’ with roster as-is

If the Boston Celtics are angling to make a major trade by dealing for disgruntled Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant, few indications of it have come from sources close to the team. A recent interview of the team’s principal owner, Wyc Grousbeck, by with WBZ’s Dan Roche offer no indications either.

The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, relying on a source close to the team, recently shot down reports Boston had ever entertained any serious offers for KD. Instead, his reporting suggested the team’s focus was on finishing the roster it has. Grousbeck echoed those sentiments in his conversation with Roche.

“We can win this thing, possibly,” offered the Celtics governor.

“We have a chance to contend — that’s their words,” he added. “They are burning with a desire to make it come true.”

If that was vague enough to leave room for interpretation, Grousbeck later made it evident Boston is happy with the team it has put together this offseason.

“We think our roster right now is a strongly contending team,” he explained. “Ime loves the group, Brad loves the group, I love the group. The group is very cohesive.”
